The Nivedan Foundation Unit of Indraprastha College for Women (IPCW) conducted a Menstrual Hygiene and Taboo Awareness Drive at Seva Bharti Kendra, with the aim of breaking long-standing silences and empowering women through knowledge and dialogue. The drive was part of the unit’s continuous commitment to social outreach and women’s welfare, focusing on creating awareness about menstrual health, hygiene practices, and the harmful effects of taboos that continue to surround menstruation. The session began with an interactive discussion, where participants were encouraged to share their personal experiences and beliefs about menstruation. Many women and girls from the local community came forward to speak about the restrictions they face — being kept out of kitchens, temples, and social gatherings — and the shame often associated with menstruation. The initiative, rooted in the spirit of sustainability, was a brilliant blend of upcycling and artistry. Volunteers and participants came together to transform what might have been considered waste into useful, charming items. Threads of Change: The first segment tackled textile waste, converting worn-out t-shirts into chic and reusable tote bags. Project Tejas: Paryavaran ki Paathshala – A Step Towards Green Learning
Under Project Tejas – Educate • Inspire • Empower, a unique initiative titled Paryavaran ki Paathshala was organized to introduce children to the values of sustainability and environmental care. The aim was simple yet powerful: to create a space where young minds could learn about the environment in ways that felt engaging, creative, and memorable. • A Classroom of Colors and Conversations The session brought together children from the community, volunteers, and well-wishers who believe in the strength of education. Instead of lectures or books, the children were given drawing sheets and crayons. Through colors and sketches, they expressed what the Earth meant to them. Some drawings showed a flourishing green planet with trees, birds, and clean air, while others reflected the harsh reality of pollution and neglect. These artworks spoke volumes. They revealed not only the children’s imagination but also their understanding that our actions today will shape the world they inherit tomorrow. • Why Paryavaran ki Paathshala Matters Environmental awareness is often spoken about in meetings, classrooms, and campaigns — but rarely is it communicated to those who need it most: the younger generation growing up in underserved communities. By teaching through art and stories, this drive made environmental issues real and relatable. Studies have shown that children remember lessons better when they are linked with creativity. Project Panchtatva wrapped up an inspiring drive centered on the theme "Waste to Wonder," proving that creativity and environmental consciousness can turn everyday trash into beautiful, functional objects. This initiative focused on upcycling common waste materials, specifically demonstrating how to transform plastic bottles and scrap into charming decor and useful household items. The drive featured two main activities that truly captured the spirit of waste to wonder: Handmade Wind Chimes: Participants learned how to create delightful wind chimes using various scrap materials. This hands-on process emphasized the potential of discarded items to produce pleasing sounds and aesthetic appeal, turning what might have been destined for a landfill into a serene piece of home decor. Plastic Bottle Planters: Another key focus was converting ubiquitous plastic bottles into vibrant planters. This addressed the pressing issue of plastic waste head-on, offering a practical and visually appealing solution for gardening enthusiasts. Not only does this reduce plastic pollution, but it also provides an affordable, accessible way to introduce greenery into homes and communities.
